UPDATE: Putin, energy min, Gazprom CEO mull energy cooperation with Ukraine

(Adds details in third, last paragraphs)

MOSCOW, Nov 26 (PRIME) -- Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, Energy Minister Alexander Novak, and gas giant Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller have met and discussed energy cooperation with Ukraine, the president’s website said in a statement on Tuesday.

“They discussed readiness of the energy complex of the country to operations in the winter period. Special attention was paid to the issues of the Russian–Ukrainian energy cooperation,” the statement read.

Putin also said that he discussed energy relations with Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky on Monday by phone.

Putin said that not all regions of Russia were ready for the heating season, and some incidents occur, creating problems.

“I will talk to and work with heads of these regions later,” Putin said during the meeting.

Ukraine stopped direct purchases of Russian gas in 2015. The current gas supply and transit contracts between the countries expire at the end of 2019.
